MSc, MD, FRCP. Qualified MB, ChB in Manchester. Research for MSc and MD
theses was the foundation of an interest in mathematical and statistical
modelling for cause/effect relationships of pharmacological interventions,
and in exploring causes of disease. Research Fellow/Lecturer in Pharmacology
posts in Manchester, and a Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacology at the Middlesex
Hospital Medical School followed. In 1984, was appointed MRC Clinical Scientist
(Head of Group) at the Clinical Research Centre, Harrow. Together with Dr
R John Dobbs, rethinking “the obvious” with respect to the cause
and development of idiopathic parkinsonism, has resulted in the current
programme, as Clinical Neuropharmacologist, Institute of Psychiatry, with
Honorary Consultant attachments at the Maudsley and in Gastroenterology
at King’s College Hospitals.
